Transcription: After the Capitol was rebuilt following the fire of 1814, Enrico Causici's Liberty and the Eagle was placed here on the south wall. This 13-foot plaster figure overlooked the House of Representatives which met in this room. The dramatic figure of Lady Liberty is holding the U.S. Constitution in her right hand. At her sides are an American eagle and a serpent, the symbol of wisdom.
